How about anger management courses?
A lot of people confuse anger with domestic violence. Anger management courses are for people who have chronic feelings of uncontrollable anger. They get very angry when they’re stuck in traffic, when they’re queuing at the post office, when they can’t get their work done etc. They are not selective as to whom they direct their anger. In domestic violence, anger is a symptom of abuse, not its cause, and it’s used as a license to hurt others.
Anger is a means to an end: to exercise control over your partner when she does or doesn’t do something you want her to, e.g. shut up when you’re having an argument or fulfil any other expectation you may have.
Talking about anger is easier as it makes you less responsible for your abuse. Unless you fully own up to your abusive behaviours you will not be able to change and an anger management course will not help you behave in a non-abusive manner.
Respect offers information about specialist programmes that can help you address your abusive behaviours and change them.
